CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Gentle Yoga Class (beginner level,
not heated) - Classic hatha
yoga postures to build strength, balance and flexibility. Designed for people who have
little or no yoga experience. Small classes and detailed instructions will help you relax in a safe,
healing environment. Each class is adjusted to the level of the
students.
Yoga
Flow
(beginner to intermediate, warm)
-
The instructor leads you through vinyasa-style asanas, to be taken at your own
pace and level of ability. This is a slow flow class,
with hands-on adjustments. All are welcomed! Each class is
different and always fun. Bristol & Carrie are Ashtanga based,
and Maureen is Iyengar based.
Hatha Yoga Hip Openers (beginner to
intermediate levels, not heated) - Classic hatha yoga postures,
including sun salutes, focusing on opening the hips.
Hot Yoga (beginner to intermediate,
heated to 95-100 degrees) - stretches & strengthens every area of the body
necessary to balance & restore all systems to optimal health. Our
room is heated to allow for a deeper release & to avoid injury.
Hot Yoga Level I class is recommended for everyone, from first day beginners to
advanced students. The magic of this class is that everyone is
practicing the same posture at different levels of ability, and there is
an exact position for everyone at every level, which our trained
instructors will help you find. Hot Yoga Level II is
a slow flow designed
for intermediate students, a challenging mix of Iyengar based asanas at a faster pace
with tons of verbal adjustments and corrections.
Silent Hot Yoga Flow with Ann (experience
required,
heated to 95+ degrees) - 10 classes of Bikram or Hot Yoga required to attend this SILENT
Bikram based yoga class. No instructions are given. We "flow" from one set asanas to the next, so you need to be comfortable with the postures and yourself. This silent class forces the student to look inward and to focus on the "self" throughout the 90 minutes. Ann leads the class by doing the
asanas herself.
Hot Yoga to Sacred Music (experience
required, heated to 95+ degrees) - this is a Hot Yoga flow class done in silence with minimal instruction and to sacred music. Students must be familiar with Hot Yoga or Bikram asanas (about 10 classes of regular Hot Yoga or Bikram will prepare you for this class). It is an extremely powerful and peaceful practice while also being challenging as it is a flow class, which moves more quickly and has fewer rests.
We learned this practice from Lisa Goodwin, Jimmy Barkan's most senior teacher, and we will be using her music, which is a combination of sacred music from all over the world and various traditions including soothing chants and songs in many languages.
For
more information, go to www.barkanmethod.com .
Bikram Yoga (beginner to
intermediate, heated to 95-100 degrees) - is a 26 asana series designed to
scientifically warm and stretch muscle, ligaments and tendons in the
order they should be stretched. This series of exercises systematically moves fresh oxygenated blood to 100% of your body, to each organ and
fiber, restoring all systems to healthy working order. It is done in a heated room to warm up your whole body. This allows you to work deep into your muscles, tendons, and ligaments, to change your body from inside out. Bikram yoga increases flexibility, improves circulation and reduces stress to provide an infinite number of benefits. The more you put into the class the more you will get out of it. It is a wonderful
journey. Be patient with yourself and enjoy! On June 8,
2005 CBS's 60 Minutes did a segment on Bikram and his yoga! For more
information, go to www.bikramyoga.com.
Vinyasa Flow (not heated) This class is for the beginner or intermediate student. You will be led through Vinyasa style asanas with a focus on connecting your breath to movement. While the movement is intended to be creative, devotional and dynamic, optional modifications and adjustments are provided. Take it at your own pace and enjoy the benefits of this soulful class!
Open Studio self-practice (warm)
- We open the studio for you to come practice on your own. Each person is
encouraged to do their own practice. Come and go as you wish during
this time. Teachers are available to answer questions, and to help guide
you on your journey. This is not a private class, rather a practice
session. Donations to the studio are gladly accepted. All are
encouraged to attend.
