OM
Om is the symbol for the sound of creation which
never ceases.
Out of it emerged creation. In its vibrations everything is contained.
Om is a wonderful tool for concentration which leads to meditation.
Many people of different beliefs practice the chanting of Om to
experience peace,
tranquility, and to connect with the higher wisdom of creation.

Astanga:
invocation - opening prayer
Om Vande Gurunam Caranaravinde
Sandarsita svatma Sukhava Bodhe
Nih Sreyase Jangalikayamane
Samsara HalaHala Mohasantiyai
Abahu Purusakaram
Sankhacakrasi Dharinam
Sahasra Sirasam Svetam
Pranamami Patanjalim Om
Om I bow to the lotus feet of the Gurus
The awakening happiness of one's own self revealed.
Beyond better, acting like the jungle physician,
Pacifying delusion, the poison of the Samsara.
Taking the form of a man to the shoulders,
Holding a conch, a discus, and a sword.
One thousand heads white
To Patanjali, I salute. Om
closing prayer Mangala Mantram
Om Swasthi Praja Bhyah Pari Pala Yantam
Nya Yena Margena Mahi Mahishaha
Go Brahmanebhyaha Shubhamastu Nityam
Lokaa Samastha Sukhino Bhavanthu
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti
May all be well with mankind.
May the leaders of the earth protect in every way
by keeping to the right path.
May there be goodness for those who know the earth is sacred.
Let all beings everywhere be happy and free.
Om peace peace peace
Japa, the practice of mantra recitation...can be done loudly, softly...or mentally.
Reciting softly is a thousand times more effective than loud recitation.
Reciting mentally is a thousand times more effective than reciting softly...
If while reciting a mantra, the sage who composed, the meter of which it is composed,
and the deity which it represents are remembered, then the proclaimed benefits will accrue.
